The Association of Mutual Insurers (AMI) has announced the appointment of Graham Berville as its new chair.

The trade association said in a statement last week that Mr Berville, who is currently chief executive of Police Mutual, would replace current chair Ian Geden.

Mr Geden will step down after three years in the post.

"Mutual insurers represent around five per cent of the UK market and since being established in 2004, AMI has already achieved a tremendous amount on behalf of its members, including projects on corporate governance, private members bills and media relations," Mr Berville said.

"We have ambitious plans to continue to drive understanding and awareness of the sector over the next three years, to ensure that this efficient model continues to be recognised for the vital role it plays in today's UK market.

He added: "Our board comprises individuals from some of the most progressive organisations in financial services today and I am very much looking forward to delivering what we as a sector have set out to achieve."

In his new role, Mr Berville will work alongside AMI chief executive Shaun Tarbuck and the 13 AMI board members.
