December warning to drivers
Car Insurance News - Published: 13/11/2007
Warnings are being issued to drivers as December approaches.
Moneysupermarket.com, a price comparison website, has done a study revealing figures showing casualty rates 29 per cent higher in December than April last year.
The longer nights and colder wetter conditions signals an increased likelihood of accidents and breakdowns.
Drivers are being advised to start preparing their vehicles for freezing conditions by checking anti-freeze, oil levels, tread depths and hazard lights.
They should also make sure the spare tyre is in good shape and keep useful items like first aid kits, torches and high visibility jackets in their cars, as well as more essentially, a set of jump leads.
Richard Mason, from moneysupermarket.com, said: "Drivers should also be extra vigilant, and prepared for the potential actions of less responsible road users."
As well as having all the essentials to hand in the event of an emergency, Mr Mason advises drivers to think about upgrading their insurance policies by adding roadside assistance.
Another option would be to buy breakdown insurance cover as a separate standalone contract.
