Mobile phone owners urged to 'shop around'
Home Insurance News - Published: 12/11/2007
Mobile phone owners have been urged to shop around for insurance.
While most network operators sell insurance policies to protect against loss, theft or accidental damage, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has warned consumers not to necessarily go for the easiest option.
Like most finance products, comparing the market is often the best way to save money and ensure that the policy provides the right level of cover.
"Ask your insurance company or your broker what it is you are getting for your money," suggested David Staddon, head of technical services at BIBA.
"Look at the alternatives as well. Don't buy at the point of sale, shop around.
"Don't be hoodwinked," he added.
Many people rely on their home insurance policy to cover their mobile phone.
While some policies do provide cover for such items, there are exceptions, especially if the phone is taken abroad.
With new mobiles worth upwards of £200, it is well worth ensuring that they are properly protected.
