Owners of listed buildings can still save

Published: 02/11/2007
Owners of listed buildings can still introduce measures to cut their fuel bills and reduce their impact on the environment.

That is the message from the Listed Property Owners Club (LPOC), which is urging people who live in listed buildings to explore their options from going green.

While wind turbines, double glazing and insulation using injection techniques would not usually be allowed, homeowners do have other options.

"Anybody who wants to do any changes first of all needs to get it approved with the conservation officer at the local council," said LPOC director Kelly Smith. "But there are sometimes ways around it.

"As long as it's not damaging the property, it's usually not a problem," she added.

"Anything that's reversible, without causing damage to the property, is usually allowed."

This news comes at a time when the cost of running a home is increasing. The summer floods have pushed up home insurance premiums, while record oil prices are filtering through to domestic energy bills.

Improving energy efficiency offers homeowners a chance to cut their fuel bills and benefit the environment at the same time.ADNFCR-1058-ID-18340254-ADNFCR
