Families must be 'aware of the need' for insurance
Home Insurance News - Published: 31/10/2007
Homeowners with families should be especially "aware of the need" for insurance to provide for their loved ones, according to a firm of independent financial consultants.
Key Financial Consultants says that although all mortgage-payers should consider life and income protection insurance, people with dependants should give it a higher priority.
Dominic Mansley, managing director, thinks people may be neglecting insurance in their struggle to pay sky-high mortgages.
This attitude is more apparent when mortgages are initially taken out as finances tend to be at their most stretched.
Mr Mansley reiterating the importance of taking out cover early, said: "It is desirable because the younger you are when you take it out, the more affordable it is...if people don't take it out initially then they're less likely to come back to it later on."
He also said that they "would not worry" so much about the need for cover if the homeowner, for example, was a single person looking to buy a flat with no dependants.
Insurance policies that cover mortgage payments and other commitments in the event death or serious injury offer peace of mind, especially during times of economic uncertainty.
