High crime tips issued

People can still do things to lower their home insurance premiums even when they live in areas with high crime rates, one industry expert has revealed.
Jonathon French, assistant director of media relations at the ABI, says that people who
"Part of the premium calculation is going to be based on claim statistics in any given area but if you live in an area of high crime it is a case of doing the same things that people in other areas do to ensure that your house is as secure as it possibly can be and that will be reflected in your premiums," Mr French commented.
The expert added that home insurance providers are increasingly taking into account your claims history when calculating premiums.
"It is becoming something that some home insurance companies are increasingly doing. It is something that people may want to look out for when they are making their choice of home insurance provider."
Research published by the ABI in 2006 revealed that around 75 per cent of households in the UK have some kind of home contents insurance and 65 per cent of people take out buildings insurance.
