Consumers warned on car cold-calls
Published: 25/10/2007
Car owners who receive cold calls from companies offering to help them sell their cars should be wary, it has been claimed.
A report from consumer group Which?, entitled Cold-call car blues, reveals that many vehicle owners and car insurance customers who contact such firms soon realise that they're don't always fulfil their promises.
"These companies charge a fee in exchange for helping individuals to sell their cars, but Which? research has found that many of the companies do not deliver on these promises, leaving sellers out of pocket and without a buyer," the consumer group said in a press release.
"Which? recommends that people tempted to use these cold-calling companies should make sure they check the terms and conditions first."
In its report, the group identifies one customer, known as Sarah, who paid £80 to a company after it said it had buyers interested in purchasing her car. After not hearing anything from buyers after several weeks, she asked for a refund - but her request was promptly refused.
