Buyers interested in haunted homes
Home Insurance News - Published: 24/10/2007
More than 50 per cent of first-time buyers (FTBs) would be interested in putting in an offer for a haunted house - despite the impact such a property could have on their home insurance premiums.
A survey from Yorkshire Bank reveals that over half of FTBs wouldn't be put off buying their dream home even if they had to share it with a ghoulish tenant. And just 19 per cent claimed that reports of spooky sightings would make them reconsider putting in an offer.
Amazingly, around 25 per cent said that they would be more inclined to see property following stories of haunted homeowners and strange goings on.
"We all know to look out for damp patches and cracks in the walls when viewing a home, but it could prove a little trickier to spot a supernatural problem with your potential property! Doing your research in the local area can really pay off when it comes to negotiating a sale price," Gary Lumby, Yorkshire Bank's head of retail, said.
Around ten per cent of British homeowners think their current property is spooked.
