General insurers offer fairer deals for fairer sex
Car Insurance News - Published: 18/10/2007
Women drivers can get better deals by sticking with general insurers as opposed to searching it out female-only specialists, a new report reveals.
A report from comparison site MoneyExpert.com revealed that the top four annual insurance quotes form the women-only insurers were £72 more expensive than that of the best standard insurer, based on a standard policy.
The average price of a car insurance policy provided by a women-only insurer was £279 - compared to the mean annual premium of £207 charged by general insurers.
"With a number of high profile advertising campaigns women only car insurers have begun to capture a significant share of the car insurance market, but by going straight to these providers female consumers are ruling out many of the biggest names in the insurance market and some of the best value policies on offer," Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com, said.
"Women looking to take out car insurance should focus on product details and pricing first rather than the insurers customer base. A large number of insurers will offer cheaper policies if you voluntarily accept a higher level of excess in the event of a claim. Buying online can also result in big savings which can range from ten per cent to 20 per cent in some cases."
