Brits repurchasing the equivalent of Seychelles

Home Insurance News - Published: 11/10/2007
The amount of money Brits spend on repurchasing items they forgot to pack while on holiday is equivalent to the entire GDP of the Seychelles, a new report claims.

A study from Abbey Current Accounts reveals that around nine million absent-minded Brits wasted more than £350 million on buying things that they had forgotten to take with them while on holiday.

Around 35 per cent had to buy something that had slipped their mind in the departure lounge last year - with the most commonly repurchased item being toiletries (45 per cent) followed by travel plugs (34 per cent) and then sun tan lotion (25 per cent).

Medicine (25 per cent) and sunglasses (22 per cent) were next on the list.

"It's amazing the total amount wasted repurchasing items travellers already own. It seems that a little more forward planning could save the nation a collective fortune," Steve Shore, head of banking at Abbey, commented.
