Police up car insurance ante
Car Insurance News - Published: 03/10/2007
Police in Twickenham have launched a crackdown on drivers taking to the road without car insurance, as part of a wider campaign on vehicle-related crimes.
Officers from the Isleworth safer neighbourhood team set up a vehicle enforcement checkpoint on Twickenham Road earlier this month, with over 150 motorists stopped and questioned by police.
Using agencies such as the DVLA and other fraud investigation teams, the force made a number of arrests, seized several vehicles and clamped cars on the spot.
"Several prosecutions will follow for a variety of offences including illegally using red diesel, possession of stolen credit cards and fraudulently claiming income support and disability benefits. This was a very successful operation and one we will be keen to run again in the very near future," Sergeant Kirsty Hayes from the safer neighbourhood commented.
She said that the campaign had arisen as a result of local peoples' concerns on road safety.
