Car Insurance News - Published: 02/10/2007
Car insurance customers in west Surrey can sleep a touch easier at night, as the region's police force continues to up its commitment to cut car crime.
The latest vehicle crime campaign has seen over 1,180 car crime prevention leaflets distributed in Waverley and Guildford - and a number of arrests have also been made.
On the first day of the campaign, two men were arrested by the Automatic Number Plate Recognition team on suspicion of theft from a vehicle. A search of their car uncovered a quantity of tools and equipment linked to a recent theft from a vehicle.
Two further arrests have been made and both of these suspects have admitted to their crimes and will soon be sentenced at Guildford Crown Court.
"The campaign centred around prevention and education and driving home the message that by talking some simple precautions, everyone can protect themselves against vehicle crime," west Surrey detective inspector Fran Breslin said.
"We have also successfully targeted a number of vehicle crime offenders during the campaign, highlighting our determination to tackle car crime in our local communities."
