Motorists urged to protect no claims

Car Insurance News - Published: 01/10/2007
Motorists are being advised to take out protection on their no claims discount (NCD) after research from price comparison website uSwitch.com revealed that 7.7 million drivers have an unprotected discount of at least four years.

According to the website's research, these motorists could see collective premium hikes of £707 million on their car insurance by failing to protect their no claims discount, something which costs as little as £30.72 a year on average, or £2.56 a month.

After a single accident, the average car insurance premium increase is £92 which, warned uSwitch.com, would wipe out more than two years worth of discounts in a second.

Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "No claims bonus protection plays a really important role as it covers motorists against premium hikes when they make a claim.

"As the cost of claims continues to rise, insurers will increase premiums to cover their costs. Consumers should therefore consider the benefits that protecting their NCD can offer."ADNFCR-1058-ID-18300208-ADNFCR
