Drivers 'should check' Ts & Cs
Published: 28/09/2007
Drivers should ensure that they read the small print on their insurance policies so that they fully comprehend the terms and conditions of their no claims discount protection, it has been claimed.
A report from price comparison website uSwitch reveals that motorists could save a combined total of £707 million through protecting their no claims bonuses. But it also states that there is no industry standard on protection, so details must be checked through thoroughly.
"No claims bonus protection plays a really important role as it covers motorists against premium hikes when they make a claim," Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch, said.
"As the cost of claims continues to rise, insurers will increase premiums to cover their costs. Consumers should therefore consider the benefits that protecting their NCD can offer."
He added: "Choosing a policy should be based on good value for money and getting the most comprehensive policy for your needs.
"The cheapest quote may not always provide all the features that consumers need from their car insurance and sometimes finding the best NCD protection can be just as financially beneficial as finding the best insurance policy."
