'Few simple steps' for carbon reduction
Car Insurance News - Published: 25/09/2007
Motorists could help reduce carbon emissions by adhering to a few simple rules when taking to the roads, a new report states.
A study from the Commission for Integrated Transport (CIT) says people could drive in a more ecologically-friendly way by ensuring that their tires are inflated properly and that they use their pedal sensibly.
The use of air conditioning and engine idling should also be limited, and motorists should also accelerate gently and make sure they adhere to speed limits.
"It makes sense that the reduction of vehicle CO2 emissions goes hand-in-hand with encouraging motorists to drive their cars in a way that helps the environment," Alec Murray, chairman of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF), said as he commented on the report's findings.
"The motor industry is working hard to reduce emissions and is constantly developing new technologies to help this process, but good motoring behaviour can only bring further benefits."
