Young drivers 'can lower premiums'
Car Insurance News - Published: 13/09/2007
Despite the fact that young drivers inevitably face high insurance premiums when they first take to the road, there are a number of things they can do to make sure they pay the least amount possible, one expert has claimed.
A spokesperson for a UK-based insurance company says that driving a small car and taking part in the Pass Plan scheme are two effective methods of keeping premiums low.
"Things you can do include buying a car with a smaller engine - older cars and bigger engines tend to be more expensive too - and keep your mileage down," she explained.
"You could also take the Pass Plus training. It is a government run initiative and it is six one-hour sessions and it costs around £100 to take and you can do this and get up to 35 per cent off," she added.
She said that the course was "worthwhile" if you a young driver - as it should save you around £600 per year from your car insurance premium.
