Musicians 'must insure'
Home Insurance News - Published: 12/09/2007
It's "very important" that musicians insure their instruments if they plan to perform at public venues, it has been claimed.
Monica Dougall, of niche management firm Pavilion, says that a significant of UK venues now require musicians to be insured in case they end up injuring either themselves or a member of the audience.
"It's very important," she said, while commenting on musical instrument insurance.
"Not just because of theft and things like that, but imagine if one of their musical instruments dropped on someone and someone makes a claim against them, they won't be covered."
"If they're going to be playing in public places, then [for] the safety of the public they need to be covered," she added.
She also said that people fail to see the "liability aspect" of including musical instruments in their home contents insurance.
"They may not be insured for certain things and they may have restrictions on the type of property they can keep [it in]," Ms Dougall claimed.
