Car cover ups 'effective'

Published: 12/09/2007
Covering your car while it is parked in your driveway might be an effective method of preventing criminal damage, it has been claimed.

Car Parts Direct says that now could be the perfect time to purchase a new car cover - as, with the dark autumn nights approaching, it could prevent vandal and frost damage from occurring.

It says that non-breathable - or nylon or plastic - material is ideal for the covering, as it prevents condensation from occurring and causing the car to rust.

"Nowadays, protection from car thieves, key scratching, broken door mirrors and wiper blades by late night vandals is as likely as damage from frost," Mark Cornwall from Car Parts Direct explained.

"If a vandal cannot see the vehicle, he's less likely to do the damage."

Car insurers typically ask where your car will be parked when calculating how much your premium will cost.
