Motorpoint releases tracking unit

Published: 12/09/2007
UK car supermarket Motorpoint has released a new device that is capable of immobilising and tracking stolen vehicles.

It says that its Pinpoint vehicle unit provides "a higher level of security" to its customers. It can be installed out of view in any car or commercial vehicle before collection and the owner can locate it using their a text message sent from their mobile phone.

This will then give the stolen vehicle's location using longitude and latitude coordinates to within ten metres using GPS.

A text message can also immobilise the vehicle in the event of any suspicious or illegal activity, in addition.

"We have seen a rise in the number of customers who want a higher level of security than that provided by standard manufacturer immobiliser and alarm systems," David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint, explained.

"For most people, buying a car is likely to the second biggest purchase in their lifetime, and we are now in a position to offer our buyers added peace of mind for very little cost, compared to that of losing a vehicle."
