Travellers warned against insurance "complacency"
Published: 10/09/2007
Although a lot of people heading to the rugby World Cup in France think taking out travel insurance is "not worth it" - but they should remember that an unexpected theft or loss could ruin any trip abroad, no matter how far you venture.
This is the warning issued by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) - with a spokesman from the industry body saying that the risk of losing possessions and needing medical treatment is ever-present when abroad.
"You may say: 'Well, I'm only going across the channel to France it's a country that's got good medical facilities' so people may think it's not worth it when actually, there is always a risk of needing medical treatment wherever you are in the world," he commented.
"The other point, of course, is loss of personal possessions. It can ruin any holiday or any visit or any break. It doesnt matter what youre doing. It's sensible for all fans."
A recent study from YouGov revealed that 37 per cent of travellers said that they had been robbed while visiting Spain, while 19 per cent of those who had visited France claimed that they'd had possession taken from them.
