Pet insurance can 'lessen the pain'

Published: 31/08/2007
Taking out pet insurance is a great idea for pet owners - as it provides "reassurance" and can "lessen heartache" in the case of unexpected disaster, it has been claimed.

Alexandra Baker, spokesperson for the Pet Care Trust, says that veterinary costs can be very high - which can act as a an extra burden if your pet develops an illness or becomes injured.

"We would certainly advise people to get pet insurance," Ms Baker commented.

"It is the same with a lot of things you care about in life - it is important that your pet is covered from a young age ... It helps to prevent heart ache later on when you are presented with big [vets] bills."

She went on to add that people should do their research on the products on the market, so that they can get their hands on a deal that best suits their needs.

"It is wise to look around and make sure you have got the most appropriate cover for your pet," she claimed.

The UK's pet insurance market is worth around £275 million per annum, the latest statistics claim.
