Shrubs and trees 'favourite garden areas'
Home Insurance News - Published: 24/08/2007
Shrubs and trees, as well as paved patio areas, are Brit's favourite garden features, a new report reveals.
A survey from Halifax Estate Agents shows that around two-thirds of people in the UK would be most attracted by the presence of trees and shrubs in the garden of a property they were considering buying or renting.
Close to 60 per cent added that a paved patio area is their most sought-after garden accessory, while 57 per cent said that a garden shed or greenhouse would have considerable effect in attracting them to a property.
Rose gardens and water features also proved popular.
General rubbish and mess from dogs and cats were the biggest turn-offs - while gnomes effectively split the nation, with roughly as many people professing their love for the little figurines as those who declared their distaste for them.
"Homeowners should treat their garden as they would any other room in their home. Ensuring it is tidy and well kept can dramatically enhance the appeal of a property," Colin Kemp, managing director at Halifax Estate Agents, commented.
"Our research showed that traditional favourites such as a patio area and greenery are still fashionable and that general rubbish is a big turn-off."
