Uninsured bricklayer to get licence revoked
Car Insurance News - Published: 23/08/2007
The perils of driving while uninsured have been highlighted by the plight of Welsh trainee bricklayer Adam North, who crashed his friend's car just two weeks after passing his test.
Mr North was travelling at 5mph at the time of the crash, the Cambrian News reports - but magistrates will have to impose at least six points on to his license, meaning the DVLA will revoke it.
Mr North drives to building sites around Wales as part of his job - but even though he was involved in a minor incident which caused very little damage, he will have to sit his test again if he wants to regain his licence.
He told a magistrate's court that he was a named driver on his father's insurance policy and that he had just assumed he would be covered as a result.
"I never thought of checking," he told the court
Court clerk Carys Henderson told Mr North that he would be docked a minimum of six points, as it was an insurance conviction.
"The magistrates cannot overrule the DVLA, who revoke a driving licence within two years of the licence holder passing a driving test if six penalty points have been imposed," she said.
