Hull drivers told to secure cars
Car Insurance News - Published: 17/08/2007
Car owners in Hull should make sure that they remain extra vigilant over the coming few months, with a number of vehicle thefts recently taking place throughout the city.
Local police say that drivers should make sure that their vehicles are always secure - as thieves are targeting cars and vans left temporarily in the street.
One recent incident happened as the driver of car unloaded material in a company yard. Someone approached his vehicle as he carried out his tasks and then gained entry through either the passenger or driver door, it is alleged.
A brand new mobile phone was taken by the offender, who then scarpered, say police.
In another similar incident, a mobile phone and a wallet were taken from the dashboard of a vehicle whose owner was engaged in a similar fashion, say Hull police.
"Do not carry excessive quantities of cash, only sufficient to give change," the local force advises.
"Do not carry expensive jewellery," or "expensive phones", they also state.
"Adopt the call back procedure for unknown customers to verify address. Ensure the shop knows where you are going and how long you will take. Do not leave anything on display. Secure your vehicle at all times. Park in a highly visible location if possible."
