Allianz backs health and safety scheme

- Published: 14/08/2007
Allianz has backed a new scheme which will see manufacturing companies offered cheaper insurance premiums if they manage to improve their health and safety records.

The Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) is using the buying power of its 6,000 members to create the new product, which will directly link premium levels to rising and falling health and safety levels, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.

The scheme has received the backing of four of the UK's largest insurance firms, including Allianz.

"Our members have demanded a better insurance product and complained that their positive approach to health and safety has not been rewarded so we have linked that to the scheme and to future potential benefits," EEF regional chief executive David Ost commented.

"This is a scheme targeted to address the problems our members have found in negotiating insurance renewals and we are sure it will do just that".

The EEF recently called for employers to step up efforts to improve their health and safety performance, after new figures from the Health & Safety Executive showed an increase in the number of fatalities recorded at work.
