Man in court for third driving offence

- Published: 25/07/2007
A Welsh man banned from driving has claimed that he was attempting to avoid a confrontation with a neighbour after he was caught driving for the third time while disqualified.

Ian Shaun Mottram, from Meidrim, was stopped by police while driving in Lampeter while banned and without an MOT or insurance.

Mr Mottram's ban had finished at the time, but he was not permitted to drive until he had taken an extended driving test, Lampeter Today reports.

According to his solicitor Aled Owen, Mr Mottram was unaware that he needed to take the test in order to drive again, and had used his car to avoid a possibly violent confrontation with his neighbour.

He said: "My client was in some ignorance of the situation regarding the suspension."

However, prosecutor Maggie Hughes argued that Mr Mottram had breached a suspended prison sentence imposed for possession of drugs by driving while banned.

The defendant has been given conditional bail and will appear in court again on August 17th.ADNFCR-1058-ID-18223712-ADNFCR
