Allianz urges retailers to remember festival-goers

- Published: 04/07/2007
Retailers should be aware of the benefits of specialist insurance - as it could potentially earn them thousands of pounds this summer, research from Allianz states.

Those attending outdoor jamborees over the coming months will pack their bags full of expensive items - but many mistakenly believe that the contents are covered by their home insurance policy.

Retailers and revellers alike, therefore, should carefully consider specialist insurance.

For example, musicians often believe that guitars and other instruments will be covered as part of their home insurance - but this isn't necessarily the case, so music retailers could do their customers a favour by offering them specialist insurance.

Similarly, jewellers could help consumers compensate for the lost sentimental value contained within a stolen item by offering insurance - and technology vendors could offer cover to those potentially liable to pick-pocketing during a crowded festival event.

"Retailers can show their customers that they understand their wider needs by offering them appropriate insurance at point of sale - whilst also generating a useful extra income," Andrew Cackett, strategic marketing manager for Allianz Schemes, said

At this year's Glastonbury festival, 31 individuals were arrested after reports of theft from tents.
