Police fire 'valuables' in car warning

- Published: 03/07/2007
Police are once again warning UK motorists to avoid leaving valuable items in their vehicles.

A spate of thefts in the Northamptonshire town of Wellingborough has prompted local police officers to issue the plea - with a raft of expensive items being stolen in broad daylight.

In the past ten days, six mobile phones and seven satellite navigation systems have been taken from vehicles in the town - with the vast majority of thefts occurring in daytime car parks in the town centre.

Several have also occurred in outlying industrial estates additionally.

"All these thefts are easily preventable by people not leaving valuables in vehicles," PC Nicola Hill, of the Northamptonshire North Police Area, commented.

"All property should be removed from vehicles and should NOT be hidden in the boot, in the glovebox or under the seat, as offenders will always look there too.

"Take all valuables with you before you lock your car and leave it."
